Suspect in Niagara Falls fatal shooting apprehended after chase

A suspect in the shooting death of a man in Niagara Falls was in custody Saturday, Falls police said.

At about 3 a.m., police responding to a call about a shooting at 1118 19th Street found a dead man inside the residence. Police said it appeared he had been shot once in the head at close range.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, fled but was spotted "a short while later" by Officers Thomas Caldwell and Karl Brusino who chased after the suspect, a statement from police said. Officer Vincent Daniels, assisted by a citizen, caught the suspect in an alley off  Pine Avenue, between 24th and 25th streets.

The victim's name has not been released.

Charges had not been filed as of Saturday morning.

"The investigation is continuing as detectives are piecing together the chain of events as well as motive," police said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 286-4553 and ask for Detective Bielec.
