News Washington reporter to discuss 'From Burma to Buffalo'

Jerry Zremski, the Washington bureau chief for The Buffalo News, will discuss his award-winning series "From Burma to Buffalo" at noon Sunday at Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton St., Williamsville.

The speech is part of the church's "Common Ground" series, which aims to foster discussion about bringing people together amid society's cultural divisions.

"From Burma to Buffalo," a six-part series published in 2016, told the story of the more than 8,000 refugees from Burma who have resettled in Buffalo in the past 15 years.

Zremski and Buffalo News chief photographer Derek Gee traveled to Burma twice to meet families of refugees now living in Buffalo, and also met more than 100 refugees in Buffalo in the course of their reporting. The series won the Society of Professional Journalists' 2016 award for non-deadline reporting for large newspapers.

Limited handicapped parking is available in the church parking lot, as well as access to the elevator through the double doors off the parking lot. Additional parking is available in the municipal lot near Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home. Call (716) 633-7800 for more information.
