City of Tonawanda School District earns award for STEM initiative

A Tonawanda City Schools' "STEMrichment" initiative, which focused on hands-on learning and student collaboration, has earned the district an honorable designation by the Western New York Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Hub.

The district was recently recognized at the WNY STEM Schools on the Move 2017 Awards. The STEM Hub has more than 700 individual members representing nearly 300 organizations in Western New York.

Tonawanda was also recognized as an Emerging School System for STEM in 2014 and Fletcher Elementary earned the distinguished mention award. This year all four schools in the district were recognized with awards.

Some school programs include a fourth-grade science class which created its own stop-action/Claymation video and fourth- and fifth-grade class field trip to the Carrousel Factory Museum to conduct experiments on the carousel.
