Clarence's proposed budget holds the line on taxes

The Town of Clarence set a public hearing on its proposed 2018 budget for 6 p.m. Nov. 15.

The preliminary $23.3 million spending plan is up $1 million from the current budget, but Supervisor Patrick Casilio said growth in the town has been able to offset increases.

"We've kept (the tax rate) the same or less for a long time," Casilio said.

The general fund tax rate remains at 94 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation and the highway tax is up from 98 cents to 99 cents per $1,000. The average $300,000 homeowner will pay $576 in combined general and highway taxes, plus additional fees for special districts.

There are no raises proposed for the supervisor or councilmen.

The board also approved $2.1 million in combined budgets Wednesday for five volunteer fire departments that serve the town.

The budget will be posted on the town's website by Monday.
