Amazon will hire more than 600 seasonal workers

Amazon will hold six hiring events throughout the fall to staff its Lancaster sortation center for the holiday rush.

The company needs to fill more than 600 openings in order to handle the influx of packages ordered during the busy Christmas season.

The sortation center is getting ready to open in a formerly vacant warehouse at 4201 Walden Ave. It is not a fulfillment center, where employees pick and pack merchandise from its inventory to fill customer orders. Instead, employees use ZIP codes to further sort packages coming from fulfillment centers in order to deliver them faster. Amazon is known for its speedy deliveries, completed in 48 hours or less for Prime members.

Hiring events will be held at:

  • Holiday Inn Buffalo Airport, 4600 Genesee St. in Cheektowaga from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Monday.
  • Fairfield Inn, 4271 Genesee St. in Cheektowaga from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4, Nov. 7 and Nov. 11.
  • Hilton Garden Inn, 4201 Genesee St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9.

Applicants should bring identification to the hiring event. For more information, visit AmazonDelivers.jobs.

Amazon is hiring 120,000 temporary workers across the country at its fulfillment centers, sortation centers and customer service sites. It is also seeking to fill part-time, permanent positions at the sortation facility.
