Tonawanda gives OK to National Grid for new substation

Facing a demand for space in its North Youngmann Commerce Center, the Tonawanda Town Board has agreed to allow National Grid to build a new substation on Two Mile Creek to provide additional power to the business park.

The new substation, which borders the City of Tonawanda, will also provide power to the "Hill" area of the city and its vacant 46-acre Spaulding Commerce Park.

Supervisor Joseph H. Emminger told the board on Monday night that it has at least three businesses interested in taking the last 15 acres of land in the business park, but there is not enough electric power supply. Already located in the 70-acre park are First Source, M.J. Mechanical and Unifrax.

The commerce center is adjacent to Interstate 290, between Two Mile Creek Road and Military Road.
