Letter: We must work with Iran and give peace a chance

We must work with Iran and give peace a chance

In 2013, Iranian voters went to the polls and overwhelmingly elected the most moderate candidate presented to them. In 2015, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, an agreement limiting Iran’s nuclear program, went into effect. In 2017, Iranians re-elected Hassan Rouhani to a second term and the JCPOA is still in effect. Sanctions helped bring Iran’s government to the negotiating table and to get this agreement passed.

This is the best agreement we are going to get, and the U.S. should work with our allies to make the best of it. Most Iranian citizens and voters want a more moderate Islam at home and peace and prosperity with the rest of the world. Most of the rest of the world agrees, especially on business for the peace and prosperity idea. This country should reach out to the people to “give peace a chance.”
