Fredonia boil water alert extended through at least Tuesday

Fredonia water customers will need to continue boiling their drinking water until at least Tuesday and possibly longer, the Chautauqua County Health Department reported Monday morning on the state's alert system.

A water main break caused the boil-water advisory on Saturday.

It affects all water customers of the village water system in Fredonia and nearby town of Pomfret.

Health officials urge residents to "bring tap water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute, and cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health."

It stated that "boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food and infant formula until further notice."
