Driving into a wall brings a charge of driving while impaired

A man who drove into a cement wall in a Walmart parking lot faces a felony charge of driving while ability impaired, state police said.

Troopers say they determined that Thomas Griffin II, 30, of Newstead, was impaired by drugs during the crash in Clarence, which occurred Saturday while his 2-year-old son was in the auto with him. Both the driver and child were not injured. The presence of the child elevated the charge to a felony, state police said.

Troopers said they also charged Griffin with a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance. After providing a blood sample, Griffin was released and ordered to appear in Town of Clarence Court at a later date.
