A celebration of the rich history of Corpus Christi Church will take place Oct. 29 as the community gathers to mark the 110th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone.
A Mass celebrated in English and Polish will begin the day at 11 a.m. It will be followed with a talk by historian Martin Ederer, who will describe the laying of the cornerstone. A short film will chronicle the 75th anniversary of the church and a traditional Polish dinner will be served in the Sears Street Center to cap the event.
Construction of the sandstone church began in 1907. Two years and $200,000 later, the Romanesque landmark on the corner of Clark and Kent streets was finished.
In 2007 the church was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites. Corpus Christi completed 10 restoration projects in the past 11 years totaling $2 million.
