Buccaneers safety Chris Conte became father during Week Six game vs. Cardinals

While Chris Conte and his Buccaneers squad nearly mounted an amazing comeback in Arizona against the Cardinals on Sunday, the veteran safety became a father.

His girlfriend, Stephanie Everett, gave birth to their daughter, Charlotte, per Greg Auman of TampaBay.com.

Conte said his child was born during the third quarter.

"It's awesome. Definitely a blessing and everything went smoothly, so it worked out great. We're both very excited, and both very tired," Conte said.

Conte said he kept in communication with Everett right before kickoff and would have missed the game to witness Charlotte's birth, had the circumstances been different. The 28-year-old safety acknowledged that the NFL is not like baseball with 162 games, so the 16 games during the regular season are considerably more valuable.

However, Conte said that if it worked out where he could have gone back, he would have.

The 6-foot-2, 197-pound defensive back has logged 307 snaps through five games. He has 28 total tackles, one forced fumble and three pass breakups.

In 2016, Buffalo tight end Charles Clay missed the team's Dec. 4 game in Oakland against the Raiders to be present for the birth of his daughter.
