Born in Buffalo, he was a Lancaster resident.
A graduate of Technical High School, he was a sergeant with the Army's 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
He bought the heating and cooling business in 1957, and ran the firm more than 30 years.
Mr. Blatner was an avid hunter, and once went on a safari in South Africa. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time at his property in Little Valley.
He was married for 40 years to the former Nancy W. Wagner, who died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary K. Borowski; four sons, Richard P. Jr., Michael, John and Paul; a brother, Donald; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Church of the Annunciation, 7580 Clinton St., Elma.
