Admonishing a stranger displays one’s ignorance

Recently my daughter-in-law and 1-year-old grandson were at a coffee shop in downtown Lewiston having a coffee break. She is of Mexican-American background, however, she was born in San Diego, Calif. She is very fluent in Spanish and it is her wish the little guy grows up knowing English and Spanish. She was speaking Spanish to him and an individual reprimanded her and demanded she speak English in America.

There is so much to say about this incident, I don’t know where to begin. However, what the stranger didn’t know is that my daughter-in-law is a combat veteran who spent 10 years in the U.S. Navy and had several deployments in the Middle East.

Maybe the individual who felt it his responsibility to set us all straight should tackle the Environmental Protection Agency, which left the Lewiston area to deal with its contaminated waste sites on its own.
