The City of Tonawanda Common Council is eyeing a $1 million plan to improve the city's public waterfront docking facilities.
Four municipal dock locations would be upgraded if the city obtains the necessary funding. They are located on the Erie Canal, along Young Street, where local vendors provide kayaks and paddleboard rentals, and along the Niagara River in Niawanda Park, including behind the new pavilion and behind City Hall.
Tuesday night, the Council agreed to accept a $487,380 state grant for the project. But under the agreement with the state, the city must provide matching funds.
The city will apply in November for $557,380 in Niagara River Greenway funds to cover the matching funding. It will have to wait until January to see if that grant is approved.
