Buffalo man, with prior conviction, charged with DWI after crashing into porch

A Buffalo man was driving drunk when he crashed his vehicle into a porch and tried to flee into the house next door, according to Buffalo police.

Kevin M. Garner, 36, of East Utica Street, was driving at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday on Grider Street, near Erie County Medical Center, when he left the road and smashed into a side porch at 305 Grider. When officers responded, a witness said the driver was in the yard of 299 Grider.

Police said they found Garner hiding upstairs at 299 Grider, cut and bloodied, smelling of alcohol, with glassy eyes and impaired speech.

Garner's license has been suspended 16 times on 10 dates between 2014 and 2017. He is charged with driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction in the last 10 years, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a vehicle interlock device.
