Homeroom Announcements: Saturday's big games & more

We know there's no homeroom today. But we're up and ready to go.

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Saturday

1. Football - Week Seven Saturday

Here are a few local games to keep an eye on:

  • Class AA: Niagara Falls at Bennett, 1 p.m. at All High Stadium
  • Class C North: Cleveland Hill at JFK, 2 p.m.
  • Monsignor Martin: St. Francis at Cardinal O'Hara, 1 p.m.

A win by Bennett (4-2, 3-2) would give it a shot at hosting a playoff game next week. This is a must-win for Niagara Falls (2-4, 2-3) it's one of three 2-3 teams in Class AA fighting for their playoff lives.

Cleveland Hill (5-1, 3-0) and JFK (3-3, 2-1) are both playoff bound, but the winner earns the division title. The Eagles can't fall below No. 2 with a loss. The Bears could move down to No. 3.

Last time Cardinal O'Hara (1-4, 1-2) hosted a league foe at its home field, the Hawks took a 14-7 lead into the fourth quarter against top-ranked Canisius before the Crusaders scored 28 unanswered points. O'Hara won its first game of the season last week in a blowout at Bishop Timon-St. Jude. St. Francis (2-4, 1-0) looks to build off of a huge win last week against St. Joe's in their first Monsignor Martin matchup of the season.

Elsewhere, invitationals at Section V's Cuba-Rushford and Pembroke also start at 10 a.m.

3. Volleyball - Tournament action

There are two tournaments scheduled for a morning start. Orchard Park hosts its annual boys tournament, while North Tonawanda does the same on the girls side.

4. Soccer - Seeding meetings

Football isn't the only sport that starts playoffs next week. Soccer gets in on the postseason action as well.

The boys start prequarterfinals on Monday and finish up with most semifinals Friday and Saturday. The girls start on Tuesday and play through the quarterfinals on Friday. Girls semis start with Class D next Monday.
