Cheektowaga zoning change sought for collision repair shop

The Town of Cheektowaga will hold a public hearing Oct. 24 on a request to rezone a parcel for a proposed auto collision repair shop at the southeast corner of Union and French roads.

Andrew J. Moquin requested the rezoning for MAACO Auto Paint and Collision. The parcel at 5 French once held an oil change shop and would be rezoned from vehicle repair to collision repair. Plans call for the construction of a 7,200 square foot shop, said James P. Rogowski, Cheektowaga councilman.

"It's been an empty corner for seven years, and I say knock it down and build new," said Rogowski.

The hearing is scheduled at 7 p.m. in council chambers of Town Hall, 3301 Broadway.

Benderson Development Co. is nearly finished demolishing the former Garden Village Plaza at the same intersection, said Rogowski. Benderson's plans had called for the construction of a light manufacturing factory/warehouse facility.
