Area colleges: Niagara tops Canisius in volleyball

Niagara continues to have a strong volleyball campaign, upending rival Canisius in four games in Gallagher Center Thursday night. The Purple Eagles won the first game, 25-22, with the Griffs coming back with a 25-18 win. Niagara won the next two in a tight battle, 28-26, 25-22, to earn the match victory.

Three players had 10 kills for Niagara -- Nicole Matheis, Grace Hetterscheidt, and Caroline Leitch. The Purple Eagles improved to 7-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and 11-7 overall.

Claire Smith paced Canisius (6-13, 4-5) with 13 kills.

Bona women lose

St. Bonaventure dropped a 2-0 loss to LaSalle in an Atlantic 10 match at Marra Athletic Complex. The Explorers put nine shots on goal while four of the Bonnies shots were on goal.

Bona drops to 1-12-3 overall, 1-4-2 in conference play.

Friday's games

The University at Buffalo women's soccer team heads to Bowling Green for a Mid-American Conference match. The Bulls are 5-6-2 overall, 3-2-1 in league play.

The Bulls volleyball team looks to end a four-match losing skid when it hosts Northern Illinois at 6 p.m. in Alumni Arena. The Bulls are 9-8 overall, 2-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
