Oct. 11-20 – Crossbow season opens in the Northern Zone.

Oct. 14-20 – Muzzleloader season in the Northern Zone.

Oct. 14 – Spey Casting on the water Demo. Meet at Orvis Buffalo at 9:45 a.m. and caravan over to the creek for a demonstration on spey fishing. Bring your own waders and gear for some tips. Oct. 14 – Steelhead Fly Fishing 101 from noon to 2 p.m. at Orvis Buffalo, 4545 Transit Road, Williamsville with Fishing Manager Drew Disbet. Oct. 14 – Ladies Shoot N’ Hoot Halloween Partner Shoot (bring a friend, husband, kid, etc.) for some fun shooting games, followed by a potluck dinner. Register by Oct. 11 by calling Colleen Gaskill at 628-9023. Event is held at North Forest Rod and Gun Club, 6257 Old Niagara Road, Lockport starting at 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 15 – Noted fly fishing author Rick Kustich of Getzville will be talking hunting musky with a fly from 1-3 p.m. (after his new book of the same name). He will go through what you need, finding fish and all about the flies. This will be at Orvis Buffalo, 4545 Transit Road, Williamsville. Oct. 18 – Environmental Forum sponsored by WGRZ entitled “What happens when animals are injured?” Three  wildlife rehabilitators will present. The presentation will held at Tifft Nature Preserve, 1200 Fuhrmann Blvd., Buffalo starting at 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 18-20 –St. Mary’s Archers Club Catch and Release Fly Fishing Derby on the Oak Orchard River

Oct. 19 – Southtowns Walleye Association monthly general membership meeting at the clubhouse located at 5895 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg starting at 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 19 – Erie County Chapter of SCOPE will hold its monthly meeting at the Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Road, West Seneca starting at 7 p.m.

Oct. 19 – Southtowns Walleye Association general membership meeting, 5895 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg starting at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Joe Yaeger with the Greater Niagara Fishing and Outdoor Expo.

Oct. 19 – The Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers International will hold its monthly meeting at the West Seneca Senior Center, 4620 Seneca St., West Seneca at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., there will be a silent auction of items from the estate of William Swartz, an original member of the chapter. Oct. 27 – Lottery drawing for waterfowl blinds begins at 6:30 p.m. sharp in the basement of the Beaver Island Club House for Beaver Island State Park, West River Parkway, Strawberry Island and Motor Island.
