Firefighter hurt battling blaze on Buffalo's East Side

A Buffalo firefighter suffered undetermined injuries battling a blaze Tuesday afternoon in a vacant house in the city’s Genesee-Moselle neighborhood, fire dispatchers reported. He was taken to Erie County Medical Center for observation.

The fire in the two-story dwelling at 66 Ernst Ave., off East Ferry Street, was reported at 2:53 p.m. and took more than an hour to extinguish, dispatchers said.

The blaze began on the first floor of the building and spread to the second floor before it was brought under control, dispatchers noted. Damage was estimated at $40,000. The cause is under investigation.
