Bid to expand 'paint-less' collision shop in Cheektowaga gets mixed reviews

Residents and lawmakers in Cheektowaga were divided during a public hearing Tuesday night on a rezoning request that would expand operations of a collision shop at 3535 Genesee St.

Dent Pro was described to members of the Cheektowaga Town Board as a "paint-less" collision business that specializes in dings and small dents. In order to perform minor collision repairs, owner Tyler Cooper requested the rezoning of the parcel that formerly conducted motor repairs to a collision repair facility.

Residents including the proprietor of another collision shop 120 feet away from Dent Pro did not put out the welcome mat. Resident Ron Lorak complained of hearing loud grinding noises after business hours.

"Collision shops are not good neighbors," Lorak said.

Councilman Gerry Kaminski also registered opposition.

Supervisor Diane Benczkowski specified the rezoning resolution, expected to be voted on at the next meeting, carry the condition allowing only minor collision repair at the shop.
