Partial opening of new Medical Campus ramp pushed back

Two levels of a new parking ramp on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus will open in late October.

The parking ramp, which is still under construction, was slated to open last week, but was not yet needed for University at Buffalo staff, so the opening was pushed back, said Susan Kirkpatrick, a communications consultant for the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Inc.

No target opening date has been specified.

The $40 million, eight-story parking garage at 854 Ellicott St., near John R. Oishei Children's Hospital, will have five levels open by Nov. 10 when the new hospital opens. Plans for the new ramp include about 1,825 parking spaces, doubling the capacity of a former parking garage there, by the time it is substantially finished next May.

About 1,500 workers from Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo will relocate to the new hospital next month. Faculty from UB's Jacobs  University medical school faculty also move into their offices this fall, followed by students arriving on campus in January for classes.

As Children's Hospital moves, workers must decide where to park
