Niagara (10-7, 6-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) won the first two sets but couldn’t seal the dea, falling to Iona in five sets in their women’s volleyball match in New Rochelle. The Purple Eagles won 26-24, 25-15, before the Gaels took over, 25-20, 25-19 and 15-13 to run their conference record to 6-3. Nicole Matheis led Niagara with 14 kills. Jaycie Roberts had 11. Rachel Hall has 21 assists while Rylee Hunt had 32 digs.
Canisius triumphed in four sets over Manhattan in its MAAC match in Riverdale. winning 25-21 and 25-21 before the Jaspers took a 33-31 triumph in the third set. Canisius closed it out. 25-23. Claire Leonard had a season-high 21 kills for the Golden griffins (6-12, 4-14 MAAC). Manhattan is winless in 19 matches including seven in the conference.
Daemen fell in straight sets to LIU Post, 25-19, 27-25, 25-22, at the Pratt Recreation Center in Brookville. The Wildcats fell to 7-10 overall, 3-2 in the East Coast Conference. LIU Post is 4-1 in league play and 17-3 overall and have won eight in a row. Outside hitter Meghan Ballou (Eden), Courtney Scanlan (Ellicottville) and Middle hitter Cristina Apostol accounted for 29 of Daemen’s 44 kills in the match. Ballou had 14. Daemen liberto Georia Wicker had 14 dogs.
WOMEN’S SOCCER: Hayden Pascoe scored in 58th minute to give Kent State a 1-0 victory over the University at Buffalo. UB is 5-6-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the Mid-Amaerican Conference. Kent State is 9-4-1, 5-1-0.
