Portville man charged with stealing money from veterans organization

A Portville man was arrested Friday  and accused of stealing money from the Sons of AMVETS organization, whose local post is located in Cuba, Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputies reported.

Lester L. Baker Jr., 49, of Portville Ceres Road, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony charge that indicates the amount allegedly stolen was between $1,000 and $3,000.

Baker is listed on the post website as the primary contact for the group, whose affairs he operated from his home. Baker did not return a call seeking comment Saturday morning.
