Lockport auto parts store manager charged with stealing from business

An employee of the Advanced Auto Parts store in Lockport has been charged with stealing $9,371 from the business between May 7 and Oct. 1.

Lockport police said they charged Zachary W. Adams, 33, of Upper Mountain Road, Cambria, with third-degree grand larceny after company officials reported the thefts Thursday.

District manager Michael E. Bentley told police he became suspicious of a cash return receipt for a piece of merchandise the company never purchased. He uncovered a long series of such returns, all approved by Adams.

The probe showed that Adams allegedly had used three bogus business accounts to process 70 cash returns for items not in the store inventory. Adams told police he needed money to pay off personal debts dating back several years.
