Sumitomo Rubber in the Town of Tonawanda plans to double its daily production of passenger and light truck tires.
It also will increase the air emissions generated from the facility, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
In its application for a renewal of its federal air permit, documents show Sumitomo plans to produce 10,000 passenger and light truck tires every day at its Sheridan Drive plant. That's up from 5,000 per day.
The company plans to offset expected emissions increases with credits it's already generated through technological improvements, according to permit documents.
The DEC reported it tentatively determined it will renew Sumitomo's air permit pending a final review with public comments.
