Explore & More's CEO resigns, citing personal reason

Explore & More Children’s Museum CEO Douglas Love on Friday announced his resignation, effective in November, due to a personal issue.

“The decision to resign from Explore & More was an extremely difficult one and comes with a very heavy heart,” Love said in a statement. “I am leaving for a personal, private reason and nothing related to the museum prompted this decision.

“I remain extremely excited about the museum’s future at Canalside, and am proud of the great strides made during my time as CEO. These included stabilizing operations and providing executive leadership to the museum as we transitioned toward our future as a major cultural attraction in Western New York,” he added.

Love's tenure at Explore & More started in January 2016.

Explore & More broke ground on the new museum at Canalside in late spring, with the building’s steel framing expected to be erected later this month. The opening of the new facility is planned for late 2018.

The museum’s $18 million capital campaign continues to raise funds and currently stands at close to 70 percent of its overall goal. Another large $500,000 gift is expected to be announced soon.

“Douglas Love arrived at a time of considerable change and challenge for Explore & More and worked diligently throughout his tenure to bring about many positive organizational and administrative improvements,” said Barry Swartz, board president. “We will miss his expertise and enthusiasm for the museum, but also wish Douglas nothing but the best.”
