The Town of Tonawanda plans to seek a grant for the $50 million Veterans Village project, which would build housing for 130 homeless veterans in the town and provide outreach services, medical care and job training.
The town voted earlier this week to apply for grant funding from the Empire State Development's RESTORE NY program.
Councilman John Bargnesi Jr. called the project unique to this area.
The project, proposed by Veterans Voices of WNY, would be built in stages and located on a former industrial site on Military Road, just north of Sheridan Drive.
Supervisor Joseph H. Emminger said he'd love to see the site redeveloped and restored.
