Beer notes: Thin Man to hold Oktoberfest, Five & 20 wraps series

Thin Man to throw Oktoberfest street festival

Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Ave.) will hold its outdoor festival, Oktoberfest 2017, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 15.

Plenty of beer and traditional Oktoberfest-themed food will be available, along with a stein-hoisting competition, and authentic German music from The Ausländers.

Tickets are $10 in advance (available at eventbrite.com or $15 day-of), and include festival access, a signature Thin Man Brewery stein glass, and your first pour of beer. A VIP ticket package is $50 advance, $60 day-of and includes exclusive second-floor access, signature stein glass, and unlimited beer and food. Call 923-4100.

Five & 20 wraps up Pint Nights for season

Five & 20 Spirits & Brewing (8398 W. Main St., Westfield) will have its last Pint Night of the season from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 5. The series of pint nights, which offers half-priced 16-ounce beers from the brewery, will begin again in May 2018.

Five & 20’s in-house eatery, Bird, also will close for the season on Oct. 8. The combination brewery, winery and distillery will still remain open daily year-round, for tastings and tours. Call 793-9463.

Buffalo Brewpub shares its commemorative glass

Buffalo Brewpub (6861 Main St., East Amherst) is marketing a Keep the Mug/Pint promotion through October, while supplies last. The glassware features the Brewpub’s 30th anniversary logo.

For $5.25, drinkers can choose any house beer, and keep the glass. On Oct. 31, the Brewpub will turn 31. Call 632-0552.

Resurgence has fall in a can

Resurgence Brewing Company (1250 Niagara St.) has released more four-packs of its vanilla cappuccino pumpkin ale and Citmo IPA (India pale ale), in 16-ounce cans.

Stay tuned for news of its Cosmic Truth Session Ale being released in six-packs of 12-ounce cans within the first two weeks of October. Call 381-9868.

 

New York Beer Project presents new take on NY Amber

New York Beer Project (6933 S. Transit Road, Lockport) will re-release its NY Amber, a craft beer-rendition of a classic American Amber Lager, on Oct. 5.

NYBP will also hold its first annual Harvest Beer, Wine and Cider Tasting Festival from 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 15. Admission is free. A flight of the brewery’s harvest beers will be available, including Cherry Blonde, Buckleberry Wheat, Plum Vanilla Saison and Pumpkin Pie Porter. Local wine and cider tastings will  be available until 5 p.m. Zak Ward will perform from 3 to 7 p.m. Call 743-6927.

Big Ditch unveils beer with Upstate friends

Big Ditch Brewing Company will launch its BDU IPA (India pale ale) from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at Brewed and Bottled Craft Beer Shop (402 Center St., Lewiston).

The beer, a collaboration between Big Ditch and Upstate Brewing Company (Elmira), is a 6 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) IPA. It was brewed with Galaxy, Azacca and Lemondrop hops and contains flavors of ripe peach with lemon zest undertones.

A limited number of Crowlers will be available to go, and Big Ditch will be at the event to talk about all things beer. Call 405-7298.
