ZELAWSKI, Josephine J.

ZELAWSKI - Josephine J. 90 of Clarence, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday (September 23, 2017) at the Elderwood Grand Island. She was born in Lackawanna, NY on January 28, 1927, a daughter of the late Joseph and Tekla Lelito. During Josephine's employment with the city of Lackawanna, her duties included director of Arts and Crafts as part of the Home Bureau Association. She also coordinated the lunch program for seniors at the Bicentennial Hall. She enjoyed preparing traditional Polish foods. Countless number of family members and friends have enjoyed "Josie's" homemade waffles, pierogies, and reuben sandwiches. "Best in Western New York!" She was a member of the Western New York Rose Society. She enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show and TV game shows and listening to traditional Polish music - including the Chicken Dance. She was the loving wife of the late Richard G. Zelawski and devoted mother of Roberta (Robert) Muir of Tampa, FL, Melanie (George Jr.) Coates of Grand Island, Richard G. (Susanne) Zelawski Jr. of Clarence, and Eugene (Nancy) Zelawski of Carrollton, TX. Grandmother of Shannon (Riley) Sheckler, Michell Zelawski, Meagan (Matt) Whitaker, Christina (Rich) Norris, Mallory (Dan Costello) Zelawski, Alex Coates and Zachary (Cassandra Reist) Zelawski. Great-grandmother of Caden Whitaker. She was the grandmother of the late Madelyn Coates and sister of the late Bertha (Ed) Darmstedter, Mary (Frank) Garbacz, Florence (Harry) Chomen, Walter (Molly) Lelito and Felicia Lelito. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Bristol Home and Elderwood Grand Island for the love and outstanding care expressed to "Josie". A celebration of her life will be planned for the spring of 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to Bristol Home, 1500 Main St., Buffalo, NY 14209.
