Vacant Cheektowaga house destroyed by fire

A vacant Cheektowaga house undergoing renovations was destroyed by fire early Friday morning, according to the Cleveland Hill Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to 240 Oehman Blvd., off Cleveland Drive, at 3:35 a.m. When they arrived three minutes later, they found the building engulfed in flames, said Fire Chief Matthew Chowaniec.

The structure collapsed as soon as firefighters began dousing it with water, Chowaniec said.

Two neighboring houses sustained minor exposure damages. One firefighter suffered a minor hand injury battling the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Firefighters from Cleveland Hill and six other companies responded to the scene, he said.
