City, Buffalo Place seek to bolster street parking downtown

City officials are working with Buffalo Place to create several hundred additional on-street parking spaces in downtown Buffalo – just by changing the signage.

Representatives of the nonprofit downtown business improvement district are helping City Parking Commissioner Kevin J. Helfer to identify places where new parking spaces could be created or made easier to use, Buffalo Place Chairman Keith Belanger said Wednesday. They're looking for situations where parking isn't currently allowed but could be, or where the pricing could be changed so it's more conducive for drivers, he added.

The initiative is part of the organization's efforts to make downtown Buffalo more attractive for visitors, residents and businesses, by addressing a common complaint that there aren't enough places to park.
