Oct. 1 – Monthly shooting and meeting, Alabama Hunt Club, Lewiston Road, Alabama starting at 11 a.m.

Oct. 1 – Opening day for coyote and snow goose seasons.

Oct. 1 – Deadline for applying for antlerless Deer Management Permits.

Oct. 1 – Woodcock season opens for upstate New York through Nov. 14.

Oct. 1 – Snow goose season opens for all of upstate New York.

Oct. 1-14 – Fall turkey season in the Northern Zone.

Oct. 3 – NY State Pistol Permit Safety Class at Calvary Baptist Church, 3515 Galloway Road, Batavia hosted by the Genesee County Chapter of SCOPE starting at 6 p.m. Preregister with Jim Carr at 778-9431.

Oct. 3 – Public meeting on trout stream management to provide an overview of the state’s approach. The meeting is from 6:30-9 p.m. at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center, 93 Honorine Dr., Depew.

Oct. 3 - Niagara Musky Association monthly membership meeting at the Eldredge Club, 17 Broad St., Tonawanda, 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be Army Corps of Engineers ecologist Andrew Hannes talking about the Unity Island Habitat Restoration Project.

Oct 4 – Opening day for the Tonawandas Sportsmen’s Club (5657 Killian Road, Pendleton) 24-round winter trap and skeet league. Cost is $5 per round for league rounds plus a $3 per round league fee. New shooters can register at TonSportsClub.com and request placement on one of the 10-shooter teams.

Oct. 14 – Spey Casting on the water Demo. Meet at Orvis Buffalo at 9:45 a.m. and caravan over to the creek for a demonstration on spey fishing. Bring your own waders and gear for some tips. Oct. 14 – Ladies Shoot N’ Hoot Halloween Partner Shoot (bring a friend, husband, kid, etc.) for some fun shooting games, followed by a potluck dinner. Oct. 18 – Environmental Forum sponsored by WGRZ entitled “What happens when animals are injured?” Three  wildlife rehabilitators will present. The presentation will held at Tifft Nature Preserve, 1200 Fuhrmann Blvd., Buffalo starting at 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 18-20 –St. Mary’s Archers Club Catch and Release Fly Fishing Derby on the Oak Orchard River

Oct. 19 – Southtowns Walleye Association monthly general membership meeting at the clubhouse located at 5895 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg starting at 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 19 – Erie County Chapter of SCOPE will hold its monthly meeting at the Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Road, West Seneca starting at 7 p.m.
