Lowdown: Winkowski has been racing the same car, his 1972 Chevy Nova, since he began his drag racing career in 1989. He was introduced to drag racing when his brother, Harry, took him to the track when he was 10 years old. Jan's favorite drivers growing up were drag racers Mike Janis and Marc Schifferele. Since 1990, Jan's car has been named the "Lunatic Fringe" based on a song title by the rock band Red Rider. Jan is the uncle of 2015 Lancaster Street ET champion Cody Winkowski. Jan is seeking his first career Lancaster drag racing class season point championship, trailing Dale Eckert by 10 points, 700-690, heading into Friday's final 2017 event. Winkowski cites his brothers, Harry and Gary, along with Dave Skowronski, past sponsor Master Pizza and many family members, friends and racers as helping his career. Current sponsor is Enginuity Automotive.
Accomplishments: Winkowski is a three-time winner of Lancaster's annual drag racing Race of Champions event, emerging victorious in 2007, 2008 and 2013 in the Box class. Winkowski won the IHRA Pro-Am Series Division I Hot Rod championship in 2015 and was ranked fourth in the world in Hot Rod that same season. He has won numerous weekly drag races at Lancaster during his career.
