Williamsville street to get 'green infrastructure' improvements

A Williamsville street is slated for a makeover with "green infrastructure" improvements, including stormwater retention planters and permeable paving.

South Long Street and Village Square Lane will also be paved and parking and sidewalks will be added to both sides of the roads, which border South Long Park.

The Village Board  awarded the work to Occhino Corp. for its low bid of $1.1 million. The village is responsible for 10 percent of the cost. The village received funding from the state Environmental Facilities Corporation and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

The project is similar to one completed this year in the village on East Spring Street, which includes about a dozen rain gardens, permeable paving and a "green wall" of geosynthetic fabric planted with grasses.
