Homeroom Announcements: Tuesday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Tuesday

1. Boys soccer - Clarence at Lancaster, 5 p.m.

No. 1 large school Clarence (7-1-1, 5-0-1) and No. 6 Lancaster (7-1-2, 5-1-1) battle it out for first place in ECIC I. The Red Devils and Legends tied last Monday, 1-1, in the first meeting of the season.

Junior Ross Showalter leads Clarence with eight goals and three assists. Senior Chris O'Brien has six goals. The Red Devils's loss came at Cathedral Prep (Pa.), 1-0.

Lancaster hasn't lost since a 2-0 game to Williamsville North on Aug. 29. They beat the Spartans on Saturday, 2-1, behind Jason Martin's game-winning goal in the 76th minute.

2. Boys soccer - Lafayette at Lackawanna, 4:30 p.m.

No. 3 small school Lackawanna (8-2) hosts No. 5 Lafayette (5-2-1) in a nonleague contest.

The Steelers lost 1-0 games to No. 4 Riverside and Williamsville South. They've outscored the rest of their opponents 38-5. Abdulhamid Albaneh has 15 goals on the year and Jabreel Almantaser has 12.

The Violets lost to McKinley, 4-0, and Tonawanda, 3-1. Their signature wins have come against No. 2 I-Prep and Riverside. Harmar Sa and Ali Somo each have four goals.

3. Girls soccer - East Aurora at Williamsville North, 5 p.m.

No. 5 large school Williamsville North (7-2) welcomes No. 10 East Aurora (6-2-2) in another nonleague matchup.

The Spartans had their four-game winning streak snapped on Friday with a 2-0 loss to Lancaster, but they bounced back yesterday with a 6-0 ECIC I win against West Seneca West. Chloe Hurrell scored twice.

The Blue Devils went winless last week with a 3-3 tie against No. 4 Pioneer and a 3-2 loss to Iroquois. Their other loss came to Pioneer on Sept. 11, 2-0. Maggie Crosson has a team-high 10 goals and eight assists. Makenna Crosson's next with seven goals and four assists.

4. Girls soccer - Southwestern at Olean, 4:30 p.m.

No. 4 Southwestern (9-1, 4-1) visits No. 10 Olean (5-3-1, 3-2) for a CCAA West clash.

The lone loss for the Trojans came at No. 1 Maple Grove, 2-1, after Karen Johnson (team-high 14 goals) scored the first goal of the game. Kylie Brown has eight goals and nine assists.

The Huskies lost to Southwestern on Sept. 7, 4-1, and lost to Maple Grove last Thursday, 3-0. Calista Heister is among the top scorers in Western New York with 18 goals.

5. Girls volleyball - St. Mary's of Lancaster at Mount St. Mary, 6 p.m.

No. 1 small school St. Mary's (5-0) heads to No. 10 Mount St. Mary (4-0) for a game between Monsignor Martin unbeatens.

The Lancers had a big week last week with home sweeps of No. 1 large school Williamsville South and No. 5 small school Sacred Heart. They also finished third in the 40-team Victor Tournament on Saturday.

The Thunder lost their first game of the season in a four-set match against No. 6 Niagara Wheatfield. They swept Sacred Heart back on Sept. 15.
