Beer notes: 12 Gates goes bluesy, Pizza Plant hops to it

12 Gates delivers the blues

12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Drive, East Amherst) will hold Rhythm ‘n’ Brews from noon to 10 p.m. Sept. 30. The event features live blues music all day, as well as the release of 12 Gates’ Dissolution, a 9.4 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) Baltic Porter aged on oak as well as Chinese Schisandra berries.

Twenty-two-ounce bottles will be available for $12 each, and a limited amount will be on tap as well. Food will be available from KTB’s Bucking Pig BBQ. Call 906-6600.

Pizza Plant has a hop in its step

Pizza Plant Canalside (125 Main St.) will host the Buffalo IPA Expo 2017 at noon Sept. 30. The event will showcase the best and freshest India pale ales from Buffalo brewers, along with their favorite music.

More than a dozen IPAs from different breweries will be available, so this is an event hop lovers won’t want to miss. Call 626-5566.

Community Beer Works embraces faint funk

Community Beer Works (15 Lafayette Ave.) will release its newest bottled beer at noon Sept. 30. Dubbed Swivet, the beer is a 9 percent ABV Belgian-style sour Quadruple, with notes of tart cherries and dates, and flavors of stone fruit, oak and faint funk. The beer will be sold in 16.9-ounce bottles. Call 759-4677.

Brickyard Brewing adds to its beer list

Brickyard Brewing Company (436 Center St., Lewiston) will release two new beers on Sept. 29.

Stained Glass No. 4 is a Belgian IPA brewed with Mosaic and Falconer’s Flight hops (7.4 percent ABV). The other is a double dry-hopped version of the brewery’s already-popular White Bronco, a New England-style IPA brewed with three pounds per barrel of Citra, El Dorado and Amarillo hops (7 percent ABV). Rusty Nickel provides Malt Fest details

Rusty Nickel Brewing Company (4350 Seneca St., West Seneca) will hold its inaugural Malt Fest from 1 to 8 p.m. Sept. 30. As a reaction to the inundation of hops in the world of craft beer today, Rusty Nickel is turning the tables and featuring beers that highlight the main ingredient, malted barley.

Big Ditch knows its nibs

Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E Huron St.) will launch its new pilot beer, a 7 percent ABV chocolate milk stout, on Sept. 29. The beer is brewed with cocoa nibs and milk sugar for a robust, roasty and creamy chocolate flavor. Call 854-5050.
