Letter: Many are unwilling to kick bad habits to benefit climate

Many are unwilling to kick bad habits to benefit climate

Lately, we all have been hearing a lot about climate change. What really bothers me is that people (including some in Hollywood) want to address the problem but don’t offer any solutions. At least I haven’t heard of any. These are people who own huge homes that must use tons of energy to keep them cool in the summer and warm in the winter, drive their many cars and big SUVs (Al Gore) and fly their private jets all over the world. Are they willing to stop driving their cars and stop taking vacations that require flying? I don’t see it happening any time soon.

Look around and see why we have so many overweight people in this country. These are people who are not very fond of walking anywhere. I have seen people actually drive their children a few houses down from theirs to catch the school bus instead of walking them there, even in perfect weather.

The next time you visit a store, check out the people who drive around looking for the closest possible parking spot. Getting people to change their bad habits would be like telling them to put down their cellphones. I don’t see that happening any time soon. Also, I would really be interested to hear some real solutions regarding climate change.
