New Naval Park marker commemorates Gold Star families

A marker to commemorate Gold Star families was unveiled Sunday at Buffalo Naval Park across from The USS Sullivans. The marker honors families whose loved ones died serving in the military and was erected on National American Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day.

"There's no better place in Western New York to have it than the Naval Park's Memorial Garden,  because everything here is about the veterans, the folks on active duty and their families who support them," said Capt. Brian Roche, the Naval Park's executive director.

Assemblyman Michael Kearns said the marker lets "Gold Star mothers know people care about them, and that their sacrifice will not be forgotten."

The Bowmansville Garden Club sponsored the marker in cooperation with Clarence Citizens for Veterans and Buffalo Naval Park.
