Cheers to a couple of actors from Buffalo.
South Buffalo native Billy Griffin Jr. was on the stage for Sunday's Emmy Awards because he was part of the cast of the Netflix movie "Black Mirror: San Junipero" movie that was named outstanding TV movie of the year. He also has appeared in "Outlander" and the movie "Florence Foster Jenkins."
Jay Hunter, who a reader noted attended Hutch-Tech and grew up on Buffalo's East Side, is starring in Tyler Perry's hit show "If Loving you is Wrong," which had its third season premiere Tuesday night on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). He is in seven episodes as Ian.
Hunter also has a recurring role on the fifth season of ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," which returns later this fall. He also is in the cast of "Tyler Perry's She's Living My Life," which is scheduled to run in 2018.
A Heads Up: All seven episodes of "Big Little Lies," which won eight Emmys Sunday, will air on HBO2 starting at 8 p.m. Thursday. Actresses Nicole Kidman and Laura Dern, actor Alexander Skarsgard and director Jean-Marc Vallee were all winners and "Lies" was named outstanding limited series. Curiously, writer David E. Kelley, who adapted Liame Moriarty's novel, did not win an Emmy. But he did win a lot of praise from the "Lies" winners in their speeches.
