Downtown moviegoers will pay $3 – or nothing at all in some cases – to park in the Augspurger Parking Ramp garage once the former Market Arcade Cinema is redeveloped into a state-of-the-art AMC Theater.
Under the five-year parking agreement with the Benchmark Group – the theater's property owner – movie patrons will pay $3 with appropriate validation to park after 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and on weekends.
Currently, it costs $2 after 5 p.m. on weekdays, said Parking Commissioner Kevin J. Helfer. If there are no events, parking is free until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and all day Sundays. Otherwise, weekend pricing ranges from $5 to $7.
The Common Council approved the parking agreement Tuesday.
Last month, the Benchmark Group signed a lease agreement with AMC to open an eight-screen theater with more than 650 seats by next summer.
