Lancaster ranked second in Class AA state football poll

For the second week in a row Lancaster is ranked No. 2 in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class AA football poll.

The Legends improved to 3-0 with last Friday's 43-20 win over Orchard Park in a rematch of last year's Section VI final.

Defending champion and News No. 1 large school Lancaster has company in the poll as Canisius (2-1) is 10th, up one spot from last week, while unbeaten Jamestown (3-0) makes the jump from honorable mention to No. 20.

In Class A, Starpoint (3-0) is the highest-ranked Western New York outfit, coming in at No. 6.  West Seneca West (3-0) is ninth. South Park (3-0) comes in at No. 15, and Sweet Home (3-0) is 20th. All four teams moved up in the poll from last week.

In Class B, the highest ranked from the area is Maryvale (3-0) at No. 11. They're followed by Cheektowaga (2-1) at No. 17, defending Section VI champion Dunkirk (3-0) at No. 18 and Lackawanna (3-0) at No. 22.

In Class C,  Southwestern (3-0) is seventh, while Cleveland Hill (2-1) is 10th.

In Class D, Franklinville/Ellicottville (3-0) is eighth, while Maple Grove (2-1) is 12th.
