EduKids plans new day care outside gated community in Amherst

EduKids, the region's largest day care business, plans to open a new location on Main Street in Amherst on the doorstep of the town's only gated community.

The day care operator has filed plans with the town to open a location at 6286 Main St., near Stonham Way, on a 1.7-acre parcel on the east side of the driveway that leads into Marrano/Marc Equity's Greythorne luxury patio home subdivision, according to Ellen Kost, an associate town planner.

EduKids would construct a 10,600-square-foot, one-story building on vacant land that is zoned for general business. Dave Kulbacki of Kulback's Inc. is the developer.

The Amherst Planning Board must approve the project site plan and review its environmental effect.

EduKids, founded in 1989 by Nancy Ware, has 14 locations, including three in Amherst, and serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
