Platter's Chocolate will celebrate National Sponge Candy Day with a three-day festival on Thursday through Saturday at the Wurlitzer Building, 908 Niagara Falls Boulevard, North Tonawanda.
The Sponge Candy Fest will begin Thursday with all day sampling and candy-making demonstrations at the factory, and a magic show from 7 to 8 p.m. On Friday there will be a beer and chocolate pairings sponsored by 42 North Brewing. A donation of $20 will benefit hurricanes Harvey and Irma Relief Efforts.
The inaugural 5K "Run for the Sponge" is at 4:30 Saturday with prizes, giveaways, and lots of sponge candy. Registration is $3o. Race registration begins at 3 p.m. in the factory. Also on Saturday there is an artisan market from noon to 7 p.m., and live music, balloons, chowder, hot dogs and subs from 6 to 9 p.m.
