People can trade guns for gift cards in Niagara Falls on Thursday.
The state Attorney General's Office and Niagara Falls police will hold a gun buyback event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the former Falls police headquarters, 520 Hyde Park Blvd.
Working and nonfunctional firearms will be accepted – no questions asked, according to authorities.
Guns must be brought to the site unloaded and in a paper or plastic bag or box. There is no limit on how many guns a person can bring. Authorites will pay $100 in gift cards for each assault weapon turned in, $75 per handgun, $50 per rifle or shotgun and $25 for any antique or nonfunctional gun.
Gift cards will be provided once each gun is received and secured by police officers on site. Free gun locks will be available for attendees. Licensed gun dealers and retired law enforcement officers are not eligible to participate.
