Upscale Spanish restaurant Aro Bar de Tapas served its last meal on Sept. 16, owners Jeremy and Christina Horwitz announced on the restaurant's Facebook page Tuesday afternoon.
"Unfortunately, a combination of serious medical issues and other factors have made it impossible for Aro to remain open," co-wrote the ownership duo.
"Over the past 2 years, both of our owners developed separate but life-threatening heart conditions (remember our Brugada cocktail), and despite our best efforts, cannot persist in operating the restaurant. We have donated the remainder of our perishables to a local food pantry to help those in need."

Aro opened in February 2016 at 5415 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, specializing in the carefully crafted, small-plate cuisine inherent to northern Spain, as well as gin-focused cocktails.
The tapas restaurant earned an impressive eight plates (out of 10) in The News food editor Andrew Galarneau's dining review, written that July.
