Colleges: Empire 8 honors Bengals' Rutledge

SUNY Buffalo State's Jamar Rutledge (McKinley) was named Empire 8 Conference Football Special Teams Player of the week after his performance in Saturday's 53-48 victory at Morrisville State College.

Rutledge had 289 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the victory including a 96-yard kickoff return. He had 206 yards on five kick returns, caught three passes for 64 yards and scored on a 19-yard run.

Buffalo State made a clean sweep of the weekly State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's soccer awards. Luke Pavone was honored as Offensive Athlete of the Week and Andreas Queen was selected for defense in men's soccer. Pavone assisted on the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Rochester and scored his fourth goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Medaille College. Queen made five saves in the Rochester shutout and four against Medaille.

Two Daemen College freshmen were honored by the East Coast Conference for their performances last week. Goalkeeper Katelin White (Lew-Port) was named ECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the week after she made nine saves in the Wildcats' 2-1 overtime victory over St. Thomas Aquinas in their conference opener. Jenn Heritz was named ECC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the week after she posted 11 kills in a 3-2 win over Adelphi University and had 11 more in a straight-set victory over the College of Saint Rose.
