Third quarter analysis: Bills' defense keeping them in the game, hammering Newton, Panthers

The Bills's offense finally got into Carolina territory during the third quarter, but still had nothing to show on the scoreboard.

The Bills' defense continued to make life miserable for Cam Newton, sacking him three more times in the third quarter while the Panthers gained negative-5 yards of offense.

Newton suffered an ankle injury after a sack from Jerry Hughes on the final play of the quarter and had to go to the medical tent for attention, but returned in the fourth quarter.

The Bills' offense still couldn't muster anything substantial and had a zero on the scoreboard after three quarters. LeSean McCoy carried seven times for only 4 yards in the third while the Bills picked up four first downs.

Once the Bills got into Carolina territory on their first possession after halftime, Sean McDermott had to be aggressive on fourth and 1 from the 44, but McCoy couldn't pick up the yardage on a toss to the left and the Bills turned the ball over. Tyrod Taylor threw incomplete for Patrick DiMarco on third down.

Cordy Glenn (ankle) misses time: Bills left tackle Cordy Glenn, who missed much of the offseason with an ankle injury and rotated with Dion Dawkins in the opener, seem to reaggravate the injury the third quarter.

Olsen done for game: Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was seen on crutches after halftime. His absence could potentially mean more snaps for Canisius basketball alum Chris Manhertz.

First quarter analysis: Bills offense going nowhere, but Panthers lead only 3-0

Second quarter analysis: Panthers somehow only ahead 6-0
