Benderson acquires Amherst property eyed as future site of Chick-fil-A

Benderson Development Co. on Friday purchased a former Sunoco gas station in East Amherst that is rumored to be the future site of a Chick-fil-A restaurant.

Benderson paid $950,000 for the property at 8100 Transit Road, at Maple Road, acquiring it from Sunoco Retail LLC, according to the Erie County Clerk's Office.

The Buffalo News previously reported that Chick-fil-A, the Atlanta-based chain famed for its chicken sandwiches and waffle fries, is eyeing the high-traffic site for one of its restaurants. Chick-fil-A has confirmed only that it will open a restaurant at 1753 Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga.

Benderson Vice President Eric Recoon said no deal has been reached on a Transit Road tenant. He said Benderson bought the site for strategic purposes because it already controls a number of buildings at that corner.
