A Niagara Falls driver who crashed into a parked pickup on Thursday afternoon was charged with driving while intoxicated. He told police he was heading home after paying his car insurance bill.
Dalton R. John, 22, of Fourth Street, struck the vehicle on the 2700 block of Welch Avenue at about 2:30 p.m., according to a Niagara Falls police report.
John, whose Buick LeSabre sustained heavy front-end damage, failed several field sobriety tests and registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.16 percent at the scene, according to the report. In a subsequent test at the State Park Police barracks, he registered a 0.12 percent BAC.
In addition to the DWI charge, John was also ticketed for failure to keep right and moving unsafely from a driving lane, according to the report.
